    Opera San José, now celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season, is a professional regional opera company that is unique in the United States. Maintaining a resident company of principal artists, Opera San José specializes in showcasing the finest young professional singers in the nation, performing at the historic California Theatre in downtown San José. The Director of Corporate Giving works in conjunction with senior executives and the Board of Trustees, and is responsible for major corporate gifts, annual event corporate fundraising, box office group sales, and advertising sales for publications. This individual works with the Board of Directors and other sources to identify, cultivate, solicit, and build a portfolio of corporate donors. Responsibilities: Understands performing arts, and works to identify opportunities for corporate prospects Works to build a portfolio, and meets corporate giving objectives Presents opportunities to target prospects Negotiates contracts and letters of agreement Closes prospects and follows up on sponsorship benefits Works within annual corporate giving cycle, using the application process Follows up on corporate gifts; results and reporting Develops programs, including ticket-based, to increase revenue Creates packages that include event or production sponsorship, ticket packages, and advertising packages Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Proven sales record in a for-profit or non-profit setting Experience in corporate fundraising desired Knowledge of the San José/Silicon Valley business market National sales experience desired Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; PowerPoint desired Duties: Manage corporate sponsorships and corporate foundation grants; applications Network with senior executives, the Board, and volunteers to make contacts Make persuasive presentations to prospective corporate donors; fulfill donor benefits Work independently; take initiative Handle sensitive communications; adhere to confidentiality Communicate effectively and efficiently; sponsor documentation Work on several projects simultaneously Maintain professionalism in all interactions The Director of Corporate Giving works under the guidance of the Senior Director of Marketing and Development, with a team that includes a grants manager, and an individual giving manager. This is a full time, exempt position with a benefit package. Opera San José is a registered 501 (c)(3) corporation.
