SYNOPSIS: If communication is the secret to a good marriage then this winner of the 1963 Tony Award for Best Play puts that premise to the supreme test in one witty and wicked evening of fun and games with no-holds-barred. After they return home late from a faculty cocktail party, Martha tells George that she has invited her husband’s young new colleague and his shatteringly fragile bride for a nightcap. As the drinks flow and inhibitions melt, secrets become revealed until nothing can ever be the same once the dawn approaches.
ROLES AVAILABLE:
MEN:
George (45-55): greying but in good physical shape, associate professor of history at New Carthage University. A "hide and watch" kind of guy, but ruthless when he needs to be. Married to Martha, the daughter of the university's president.
Nick (25-30): handsome and well-built in an all-American way. Very bright and extremely ambitious.
WOMEN:
Martha (45-55): 52, but looks younger. Bosomy and boisterous, with an aura of sexual menace. She and George have long ago figured out each other's soft spots and weak points and are fearless in their willingness to exploit either one.
Honey (25-30): plain-looking but not unattractive. Comes from a moneyed family and knows how to get what she wants.
