For anyone seeking an alternative to the endlessly recycled big-budget musicals that dominate South Bay theatre, Dragon's "Brilliant Traces" is just the ticket. With a cast of two, an audience of 40, and a meaty contemporary script, this is the kind of intimate, thought-provoking theatre that is all too rare this side of San Fransisco. Funny, riveting, affecting, and emotionally loaded, it is a demanding play for the audience as well as the actors, but the investment of time and attention pays off. By the end of the play, after the secrets of these characters' damaged lives have been peeled back one by one, we feel that we have accompanied two very real people on a journey from loss, through deep denial, to the beginnings of understanding and acceptance. Kudos to the cast, the director, and Dragon Productions for having the courage to present this sort of work and the skill to do it successfully. Collapse

One of the most intense shows I have seen in a long time, Brilliant Traces left me alternately laughing and choking back sobs. Two lost souls find each other - and find themselves unable to escape each other - in a small Alaskan cabin during a killer blizzard. One by one, they strip away the layers of self-deception, finally reaching a stunning conclusion. Brilliantly acted, superbly directed, and guaranteed to blow you away. See this show! Collapse

At once both rib-ticklingly ironic and astonishingly cathartic, this two-character emotional rollercoaster kept me on the edge of my seat until suddenly it was over, leaving me want more.

Gripping performance by both Meredith Hagedorn and Tom Gough in a thoughtful, funny dialogue of two strangers stranded in an Alaskan cabin.

Great performances by Meredith Hagedorn and Tom Gough in this intense, powerfully written play. Rarely is so much said so well in such a short time -- an hour and 40 minutes.

A tour de force by the two actors. Incredibly intense drama, about two people who each have their inner demons. Meredith Hagedorn and Tom Gough both shine as their characters uncover each one's own hidden trauma. The intensity starts in the first scene and never lets up until the end. The minimal set accentuates the bleak interiors of these two characters, as does the setting: a white-out in a blizzard. Very powerful show. Collapse
