The Christmas season has inspired American composers since pre–Revolutionary times. From the shape hymns of the early settlers to the Jesuits and the Native Americans, from the folk songs of the Appalachian Mountains to the uniquely American African–American spiritual, Americans have used song to make Christmas their own. Ragazzi’s An American Christmas will offer selections from all these genres plus music by American composers such as William Billings, Charles Ives and Randall Thompson. Come celebrate the holiday season with us and join Ragazzi in singing familiar carols that have deep American roots such as O Little Town of Bethlehem and Joy to the World.
