Where There's A Will
Naatak - Bay Area Indian Theater
June 27-June 29, 2003
NAATAK Bay Area Indian Theater presents Mahesh Dattani's "Where There's A Will" (A play in English) directed by Harish Sunderam Agastya. "Where There's A Will" is one of Mahesh Dattani's wackiest comedies, a play where traditional family values meet the seven deadly sins. What happens when life throws you a googly that beats you all ends up? Your son is a nincompoop. Your marital life is 'insipid'. Your daughter-in-law is a scheming little witch. WILL POWER alone will help you triumph over these hurdles that God threw between you and nirvana. Or will it? Dattani skillfully weaves his rib-tickling narrative around the machinations of a dysfunctional Indian family in this play that he calls the 'exorcism of the patriarchal code'. Naatak is the Bay Area’s premier organization dedicated to furthering creative Indian theater. Over the last 8 years, Naatak has continuously strived to expand the boundaries of Bay Area theater by mixing in Indian theater concepts with mainstream American techniques. All proceeds from Naatak plays benefit various registered charities. For more information, visit http://www.naatak.com or email will@naatak.com.

My husband and I saw this show during its last run. It's awesome - genuinely good performances from the lead actors supported by elegant sets. Very nice adaption too - the touches are truly Indian - yet the play is still well and truly Sleuth, which by the way, is not something you can say about the movie remake. Collapse
