Add Review/CommentBelmont’s 1870 Art Center presents the work of two member artists, sculptor Rob Browne and painter Fred Holle. The Show, titled Double Take, not only presents a difference of medium but also a difference of intention. Browne’s classical portrait sculpture relates to the visual aspects of the human visage in a traditional manner. Holle’s contribution relates more to the satirical, if not absurd, foibles illustrating uncomfortable aspects of the human condition. For the past 15 years, Rob Browne has been doing portrait sculpture commissions, primarily of children, in the round and in relief. His portraits are sensitive and revealing, often composites of various moods of his subjects. More than a simple likeness, his portraits really do convey the person within. Along with the portraits, you’ll see some new work reflecting Rob’s years as an illustrator and his appreciation of line and humor. The work is narrative and, for the most part, done in relief rather than full round. As with Fred Holle’s work, the title is an integral part of the work, reading it enhances the art experience and may even bring a smile to your face.
