Some new things from Tabard in their new home, which is a GREAT space and well utilized in this adapaptation of a classic and timeless story. The language works in this setting and though not shakespeare it certainly does require attention. It's short and compelling though and if you can get past the mics being used (tricky in an intimate space to hide the concert like mics, and avoid being distracted by the sound of humming, or scratching in a show with lots of emotion levels and physicalilty.) Some unbalanced performances (some just great, and others not so much) with a clever use of technology makes this a good effort across the board certainly worth the visit. Collapse

We took our granddaughter to this play and she hasn't had this much fun at a play in quite some time. Nor, for that matter, have we. A very clever interplay among multiple cultures, some rather obscure. The costumes were marvelous, depicting just what they needed to and the set design was simple yet very suggestive of each locale. I was puzzled by the San Jose bit until I realized which of the escapees had gone there. Well done! Collapse

This is a little jewel of a play -- cleverly working in myths and tales from around the world, showing the ties between all cultures, in a delightful and amusing presentation that will entertain all ages. The cast is wonderful, the staging, sound and script all beautifully, cleverly, and obviously joyfully designed. A "feast" for sight, sound and mind. Highly recommend it! We will be coming back for seconds! Collapse

I caught the show on the second weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Judging by the standing ovation, it was a real crowd pleaser. The star of this musical review was Carolyn DiLoreto, who stole the show with her amazing song and dance talent. Molly Carter was outstanding with her torch song vocal numbers. The silky smooth voice of Ron Ketelsen brought the crowd to tears when he sang "Stop Time," a very touching song about a father's love for his growing son. Afton Boltz was hysterical with her comedy numbers "Just in Time" and "2 and 4." The ending dance number, "Broadway Rhythm" left the audience astounded as the dancers jumped rope and tapped at the same time. On the negative side - the band was a bit of a distraction as they had tempo issues which seemed to be the result of them being split on two sides of stage. There were also some microphone problems several times throughout the show. However, despite these issues, it is a wonderful show and I would highly recommend it. Collapse

Wow! This is a great show for everyone. The singers, musicians, tappers have so much energy, talent and enthusiasm that it just makes you feel good all over! As far as being like a High School Show...I wish my High School shows had been 1/10th as good! It does have that Judy/Mickey "Let's put on a show" feel, especially since the venue is a converted warehouse...but that only adds to the charm. Go see it. I hear tickets are selling out. Collapse

Caught this show on opening weekend. This original production reminded me of a high school dance and choral concert that we have all endured through the years. Some of the talent was tops such as Afton Bolz. Molly Carter, Dean Scott, Geri Carlson Sauls, and young Carolyn Diloreto while others were not so talented. The highlight of the show was the tap dancing lead by Scott, Sauls, and Bobby Giruado. However, it still remained a recital. Would suggest that if you know someone in the show, you will enjoy it. Otherwise, you might chose another venue. Collapse

This is just a very fun show that runs on pure talent. The tapping imparticular was amazing. The main standout was an adorable and insanely talented 11 year old, Carolyn DiLoreto who tapped and sang her way throughout a majority of the show. The entire cast had an infectious enthusiasm. This show combined improv tap, familiar songs, audience participation, and a even a few Christmas songs to make a very enjoyable evening. From Ben's cool drumming to Afton's gleaming smile and angelic voice to Molly's sultry attitude, all vocal talent was amazing. The combined dancing talent was equally as stunning. Dean Scott was a joy to watch and Bobby Giraudo was just an energetic lightning bolt. Geri Sauls muli-tasked speedy tap with operatic high notes all the while selling every moment with style. I wish I could write a sentence for every cast member. The only problems were technical: microphone, drum stuff, set functionality, theme confusion. Nothing big. IN CONCLUSION, check it out! Collapse

Tabard is known for their creative approach and this show is no exception. The well cast, fun adaptation of the book is full of minimilist but magical effects, and lots of laughs. the creative two sided staging was challenging, but I think they handled it well, and though the sound could use some tweaking in terms of levels, and mics, the colorful costuming, and props, not to mention the very cute kids, made this an enjoyable evening. Just 1 1/2 hours, and an entertaining intermission certainly makes this a worthwile show to take the family to. Collapse
