A new award-winning British musical comedy about a little duck named Ugly whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from his home on the farm and pursued by a hungry cat in his rollicking journey, he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms. It is witty, but also deeply moving. Honk! opened in London in 2000 and won the Oliver Award as Best New Musical. DATES SUBJECT TO CHANGE!

Saw this with my daughters & granddaughters - we all laughed a great deal and even got a little teary at spots. From ages 11 to 65, it was a hit with us!

This show was tremendous fun. A great family outing for all ages. The cast is wonderful. Jeff Clarke has some trouble with the high notes in his songs, but his physical work more than makes up for it. Justin Torres is a wonderfully slimy "Cat", and other performances worth mentioning are Michael Johnson as Drake and Jay Steele as the Bullfrog. All in all,a good time (though the orchestra is more than a little rocky) and an evening of theatre you won't find everywhere. Check it out! Collapse

I see most of the musicals at Saratoga Civic Theater, at least the past 4 years now. Thinking this one would be slightly juvenile, I was awestruck by the quality of the performances by the major characters--check out Molly's chicken impersonation, not just the average clucker in the yard at all, but a truly fancy variety I saw once at a boutique farm in Pescadero. And the frog solo near the end...I laughed til I almost cried. Casting was truly perfect, and I still wince at my sore hands after applauding. I had never heard of this musical and went with scepticism, but I emerged with such joy. I see a lot of theater, and I must say I forget some soon after, but I can still visualize and hear what all went on in the farmyard, pond and...you gotta go see this treasure...for all times and for all ages. No one will be left untouched with happiness and good feeling. Collapse

That is about all I can see for this entertaining show that is now playing at West Valley Light Opera. Who knew that a childrens show could be so fun. I knew it would be CUTE. The Ducklings, the Frogs, the Cat and Chicken...ahhhhh. Did you know that this show won the London equivalent to the Tony Awards? Witty dialogue and memorable music really made this show move. Oh, and the set. What an amazing set. This guy should be doing it for a living. Maybe he is. My only complaints are the orchestra (a number of wrong notes) and the fact that this group does not have childrens tickets prices. I have three kids under the age of 12 and their tickets were the same price as mine. I know many other families that could not afford to bring their kids to see a show like this without a discount. Get with it WVLO! It truly is a wonderful production. Collapse

I had only seen this show one other time and it was the Cabrillo Stage production back in 2000. What a joy to see this onstage with adults playing all of the roles (except for the ducklings, of course). Geri Sauls has done a wonderful job casting and two standouts are Jeff Clarke as UGLY (he will break your heart) and Jen Wheelwright as IDA (amazing voice and good actress). The rest of the cast is amazing with some notable turns by Steve Anthony as JAYBIRD and Michael Johnson as DRAKE. You should make it a point to see this show as it is not well known and they could use some bigger audiences. You will NOT be disappointed. Collapse
