King Arthur’s enchanted kingdom, Camelot, is a place where honor and chivalry reign. But can this idyllic land survive when Queen Guenevere falls in love with Sir Lancelot? The splendid, memorable score includes the romantic and haunting If Ever I Would Leave You, the captivating How to Handle a Woman and the majestic Camelot. Re-discover the grandeur of one of history’s greatest love stories. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this remarkable production led by the great Michael York as the celebrated King Arthur.

Michael York's star power (and that voice) made it worthwhile, as did Jame's Barbour's Lance, though the rest of the production seemed at times heavy- handed (the fight scenes) and at others rushed (all the scenes with Mordred). I don't know if York isn't settled into the role yet, or if the director just didn't want to overtax him, but his Arthur sadly missed many opportunities and simply lacks range and depth. You're never really made to care about these people and at the end of the show it felt very much like "Camelot-by-the-numbers". Collapse

We thought this show was dreary. If it was a $20 ticket local show, we would say, "oh well, you get what you pay for". For $70 a ticket (that's right!), it was an embarassment. The idea that this show might go to Broadway is laughable. The "perfect" knight Lancelot couldn't even pull his sword out of his scabbard cleanly! What was worse than the show was having to endure the pre-curtain plea for money from AMTSJ's Executive Director. After taking $2mil from the public coffers (imagine if San Jose divied that money up 20 ways, $100k a piece, to some WORTHY local theater groups!), to plead poverty in front of 1000 or more patrons who already paid $30-75 a ticket and were about to see a second-rate touring company production, it was the height of audacity. When AMTSJ gets its act together, stops bringing in so-called professional shows that don't cut it and starts doing its own shows with local talent, I might consider donating again. Until then, not a chance. Collapse

We attended on the 2nd night of the show's run. The orchestra was extremely rough - not at all up to professional standards. Michael York flubbed the words and lyrics several times and sang off-key too often for comfort. During a battle scene, the balcony he stood on swayed back and forth, completely ruining the action. Rachel York's vocals were spectacular, and she really put her heart into it. I have to agree with a previous reviewer, though...zero chemistry with Lancelot. But even with all that, it was a nice, sweet production. Not worthy of the standing ovation it received, but we did enjoy the evening...a testament to what a spectacular musical it is! Collapse

I second the San Jose Mercury News review, and think you'd want to see this musical. It will be good even for children who like stories of kings and knights, I'd say from age 10 or 11 who study medieval history. I specially enjoyed the wonderful singing voices of Lancelot and Guenevere. I was a bit reluctant, after previous experience with the AMTSJ, about the sound system - however it worked very well, every actor was heard clearly when speaking and when singing, and the sound level was exactly where it should have been. Camelot was recreated much as I remembered it...sets, cast, music lovely. Michael York enchanted us. Lancelot had a wonderful voice, but there didn't seem to be any chemistry with Guenevere and somehow, he didn't "look" the part (perhaps I'm only remembering the Robert Goulet look.) For lovers of the traditional Broadway stage, this is a 'must'. Collapse
