The Peninsula Women's Chorus spring concert, Discantoribus, from the Latin for “singing apart,” examines how different elements come together to create a satisfying whole. The centerpiece of this program is an eclectic mass setting that interweaves movements from Benjamin Britten’s Missa Brevis with Jan Åke Hillerud’s Missa Discantoribus, resulting in a compelling combination of disparate movements that culminate in Britten’s urgent and timely plea for peace in the Agnus Dei. Other featured pieces include the foreboding Suite de Lorca by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavarra, works by contemporary American composers Charles Griffin, Libby Larsen, and Gwyneth Walker, as well as a world premiere by Bay Area composer Brian Holmes.
