From the heart of Brooklyn comes a band of soulful street-corner singers and storytellers with a mix of pop and soul, they set their stage and tell a wondrous sidewalk fairy tale about a young girl searching for fame and the father she never knew. With just one clue to lead her, she lands in the city that bears her name...BROOKLYN.

While this wasn't by far my favorite musical, it is certainly worth checking out for the excellent voices and performances of the entire cast. The setting and mood of the show reminded me of Rent, but with an amazingly creative use of sets and costumes. Diana DeGarmo has matured as a performer and singer since she was last seen in West Side Story, Melba Moore sounds good and looks unbelievable for 60 years old, and Cleavant Derricks should have had more to do --- he's that good. It's a show certainly worth seeing at least one time, especially with such a talented cast. Collapse

Diana DeGarmo is in her element here, commanding the stage with her rockin' vocals. The rest of the cast also impresses vocally -- particularly Cleavant Derrick and Melba Moore. WOW. The story is a little thin, but better than you might expect from reading the synopsis. It is definitely a modern fairytale. Ms. DeGarmo also shows her comic side in the beginning of the show, playing her character as a young child. Very cute. Go see this before it closes on Sunday! Collapse
