”He that troubleth his own house, Shall inherit the wind.” - Proverbs 11:29 One of the most outstanding dramas of our time. The play has as its genesis the events of the famous 1925 Scopes trial, although the stage direction suggests the play is set “not too long ago.” The playwrights’ note Inherit the Wind is not about the theory of evolution versus the literal interpretation of the Bible. It assaults those who would constrict any human being’s right to think, to teach, to learn. Our major theme is ‘the dignity of the individual human mind’…. Humanity is on trial. Anyone who would limit thought is on trial.” Inherit the Wind is as timely now as it was in its Broadway debut in 1955.
