A mixed-repertoire program for the Valentine's Day weekend includes Dennis Nahat's ballet Le Style Classic set to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 39, and Nahat's "life-cycle" dance, Ontogeny, set to Karl Husa's Pulizer Prize-winning String Quartet No. 3. The Company debut of Lew Christensen's 1967 comic ballet Il Distratto danced to Symphony No. 60 by Franz Joseph Haydn, and the Grand Pas De Deux from Don Quixote set to the music of Ludwig Minkus with choreography by Nahat compliments this romantic program. Also on the program will be the West Coast premiere of the pas de deux that helped Yui Yonezawa win the Senior Woman’s Bronze Medal at the VIII USA International Ballet Competition last June. Ms. Yonezawa (who just joined Ballet San Jose in November) won rave reviews for her presentation of Ben Iida’s " September." Her partner for the piece will be Company Dancer, Maximo Califano.

Another great program from SJ Ballet that demostrates how creatively and let's face it amazingly the human body can be used to storytell. It's too bad there weren't MORE people at this fantastic display of dance. 4 very different pieces, 2 of which were just outstanding composed a two hour evening. I have to say the more and more I see from this company the more excited I am about dance in general. The "acting" and emotion of many of the company members is outstanding and whether you enjoy the more modern abstract, avant guard pieces or the graceful, classic, "frou frou" styles, you can't go wrong with a repatoire. Can't WAIT for the next two from this SJ GEM! Collapse
