Eugene O’Neill’s tragic masterpiece is his full-throated lament for his lost family and his own anguished youth. The Pear celebrates the 50th anniversary of this magnificent, searing play, and during the weekend of October 6-8, we will be honored to perform Long Day’s Journey at Tao House (in Danville), where O’Neill wrote it.

It's not a light comedy, it's not easy to watch, but solid acting, particularly by John Russell, makes it worth it. The three hours goes by faster than you would expect, and the deep dysfunction of this family is in your face, literally with the intimate space and directing choices. It's drama indeed and if that is your cup, it runeth over. Collapse

This is a first-rate performance of a seminal work in American theater that is rarely performed. The editing out of reptition in the original was brilliant. I was expecting to be drained (as I am when I watch the AFT video of the performance), but every word in this production counts. There is not a wrong note. It is emotional without being draining. Excellent in all aspects. Collapse

A thoughtful and elegant production of O'Neill's tortured Tyrone family. Jeanie Forte's direction brings out the underlying affection between the family members that ultimately is not strong enough to save them from their personal devils. Excellent portrayals, especially Diane Tasca and Tom Ammon as Mary and James Tyrone. Never thought I'd want to see an O'Neill drama twice, but I'd go back to this one so that I can appreciate even more the layers of emotion that the actors and director have woven. Collapse
