This funny/rueful exploration of brotherly (and sisterly) love fancifully re-imagines the real-life story of Paula Vogel and her late brother. This wonderfully inventive play shows how love triumphs over such foes as Acquired Toilet Syndrome, bigotry, mortality and other things that go bump in the night.

This is a slightly bizarre play, but wonderfully performed and such a treat in the intimate Pear theatre. 3 actors with spot on timing really deserve sold out houses. There's a lot of great arts events out there, make it out to this show though, particularly if you haven't had the pleasure of seeing a wonderfully physical show a maximum of 5 rows from the actors. I laughed throughout!! Collapse

Tired of the usual holiday play? Come see Baltimore Waltz at the Pear. This delightfully quirky play is part dream, part valentine, and the stage work is lovely. Alexandra Matthews plays Anna with a grace and quiet realism that is superb. John Romano (as her brother Carl)lacks a certain professional polish, but more than makes up for it in sincerity and energy. The star of the show, however, is Jeff Clarke. Clarke plays the "Third Man" and presents every character Anna and Carl encounter in the play. He shifts between chracters with mecurial quickness, and is spot-on with each. The set is the usual clever work by Ron Gasperinetti, as he takes limited space (and budget I'm sure), and creates an intriguing visual experience that almost becomes a character itself. The lights and sound were less impressive, as there were scenes and transitions that begged for music, but were met with silence. Still,if you're burned out on Christmas Carol, The Pear presents a fresh alternative. Collapse
