This wild, Irish play has its 100th anniversary in 2007. John Millington Synge wraps blistering truths about family and society in lilting language and outrageous humor. A young stranger becomes the hero of an Irish village when he claims to have killed his “Da,” but his glory does not last long. And then the blarney turns to steel.

I was very impressed with the actors and their ability not only to grasp the wonderful Irish dialect, but to make up for the possible challenges of watching without having the words in front of you. It was almost as challenging in some ways as Shakespeare, but the entire cast really rose to the occasion. I would classify this as a dark comedy, and the humorous bits certainly were funny, but I was taken back a bit by how dark some of the dark parts really were. As always, the set was spectacular, and I felt the challenge of doing this play (which is an important piece of beautiful poetry) was met to be sure. Collapse

i saw the Playboy last Sunday and thought it is very well cast and directed . Well worth the price. The Pear Theater seats about 50 people so very seat is good.
