An elitist and irascible college dean has suddenly gone blind. Tormenting his student nurse provides him about the only "entertainment" to fill the days until the young and sexy, blue collared Anita Merendino (complete with jealous boyfriend with sketchy moral tendencies) is assigned to read to him. And a unique and fascinating relationship is born. In this poignant comedy our intellectual odd couple finds that within each other lies the missing link in their own personal evolution. An imaginative potion of laughter, lament, and transcendence.

I know, I know. It's almost shameless for a director to review a show she's directing that hasn't even opened. Granted. I am the first to be skeptical, trust me. Be that as it may, I am a tough critic, I see a lot of theatre, and I think it would be a shame not to mention unfair to remain quietly humble about a piece that shouldn't be missed. The writing of this play is just charming. Sharp, witty, literate, really wonderful. Simple and commplex all at the same time. The raport the 4 actors have with each other is realistic, and deep, and I'm so excited to be watching this every day. If you haven't been to this venue you are missing out. Catch this show, catch it early and pass it on, don't let others pass up a really, great all around production. Collapse

Fred Sharkey (Dean Ravenswaal) and Camila Frausto (Anita Merendino) rank amongst the very best actors that I have seen at Northside or on any livestage for that matter. Their poignant delivery brought goosebumps, laughs, and tears as I watched the flawless performance on opening night. They both were absolutely believable. Lungfish was one of my top 5 favorite plays at Northside over the 17 years I've been going there. Also Paul Ulloa and Kimberly Kay did justice to their less defined characters Dominic and Nurse Crane. A highly recommended evening out at the theater! As usual it's always amazing to see what Richard Orlando can do with set design for this intimate venue. Collapse

We saw the show tonight, on our first visit to this intimate little theater. What a welcome surprise! The vehicle was great -- sharp, funny, astutely observant, quick-moving, and ultimately compassionate. The small, mostly young cast was excellent, capturing their characters superbly. The recorded music track (various Beethoven pieces) was well-suited for each segment -- pre-performance, performance, and intermission. The set and lighting worked nicely. This is community theater at its best, and deserves to play before sold-out houses. Don't miss this hidden gem! Collapse
