Big hair is back - and so is the infectious shoo-be-do-wop-wop sound of the girl groups and female singers who rocked radio listeners in the 1960s with hits like My Boyfriend's Back, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and Don't Sleep in the Subway. From The Shirelles to Dusty Springfield, The Shangri-Las to Janis Joplin and Patti LaBelle to Aretha Franklin, Beehive gives these women and their music the R-E-S-P-E-C-T they deserve. Silly and serious, funny and phenomenal, this feel-good, fast-paced '60s songfest is all about having a good time.

    Last Friday night, June 1, we saw Bee Hive at San Jose Stage Company, and it was fabulous! There are 6 women actors that give their all with high energy singing and dancing. This is the best play of the 2006-2007 season at the company. The play itself is very well written and tells a story about the coming of age of women from the 60s through the early 70s through song. I was so moved by this performance, by the story of the powerful women from that era, such as Aretha Franklin, an occasional nostalgic tear formed. I was but a little girl in the 60s, but I remember the songs and images on the news. The singers seemed to be having a lot of fun as they interacted with the audience as well. I've told all my friends to go see this play - they owe it to themselves and it'll be a play to remember! Way to go San Jose Stage!! Collapse
