Holmes’ most spine-chilling mystery is placed in a modern setting in this version with suspense, humor and terror. Sir Henry is heir to the vast Baskerville fortune, a legacy that comes with a family curse—death at the fangs of a horror that prowls the moor. Only Holmes can stop the beast. While mysterious lights signal Baskerville Hall and the hound terrifies the countryside, the sleuthing begins and suspicion falls on sinister servants, butterfly collectors, ladies in distress and escaped convicts. Who wrote the letter that summoned the hound? Is Sir Henry’s romance with the lovely Kathy doomed? Is the supernatural at work?

Snc plays can be funny, intense or just ok but my experience so far has been there is nothing like a live performance. I plan to see more performances. Collapse

I was quite disappointed. As the script was not written to be a comedy, the comic nature of Watson and Holmes didn't really work, and there seemed no point setting it in modern day when it affected nothing in the plot except the use of telephones. Whilst resetting it in time period, couldn't it have been re-set to take place in America, and then they needn't have tried to do English accents, which were painful to listen to. The acting ability was below the level we have seen in other plays - I felt that the supporting cast was better than any of the leads. Sorry I cannot recommend it to anyone. Collapse

This was an interesting mix of accents, which certainly detracted in places from the drama. Watson, the maid, Kathy Stapleton, and Laura all had some kind of consistent British accent. As for the rest... they were apparently from either an American or some other random version of the show; it would have been better if the actors would have kept a consistent accent and if they're not capable of that, just have the cast perform with their own voices. I attended a matinee, and when the elderly man (with hearing aid!) sitting next to me comments on this, you know you're in trouble. Collapse

All of the actors were spectacular and the play flowed perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed the part of Kathy Stapleton played by Jennifer Ellington. The role was very tricky and twisted but Ms. Ellington pulled it off with flying colors. You can clearly see and feel Kathy Stapleton both as Sir Henry saw and how she really was. But I felt in the end where Kathy ran offstage, Ms. Ellington wasn't as malicious or evil as the part dictated. But when Kathy was taunting or flirting with Sir Henry, it was perfect. I loved all of her entrances because they were all funny or exciting. Another part that stood out was Steve Lewis or Dr. Watson. His part was funny and charming especially when women were involved. He really showed his chivalry and the part also ran very smoothly. Katherine Heaney (Perkins) and Dawn Cates (Laura Lyons) were also excellent actresses, both their roles demanded very pretty and femine yet strong women. Both Katherine and Dawn interpreted and portrayed the roles flawlessly. Collapse

This small production does a reasonably good job of their modernized version of this classic tale. All the action takes place on a one room stage, with no changes in props or scenery. With some imagination and the often humorous acting of the players, the show is entertaining and believable. For pure Sherlockians, it may not be up to par, but this is a community playhouse, and they do the best with what they have. The actor portraying Holmes does over act a bit, but probably on purpose to add comedy to the story. Over all it is an enjoyable two hours, with a 15 minute intermission. Hopefully there will be more Sherlock Holmes adventures to enjoy at this playhouse! Collapse

The show was very interesting. The detective work was excellent. I couldn't solve the mystery before the characters. Santa Clara Players should do another Sherlock Homles play.
