I heard so many great things about this play and the acting, that I called in sick to go and see the show. Don't tell my boss, please. It was well worth the risk! I laughed, I cried, I felt like I was taken on a journey and eavesdropping on the world of the Humble/Pie's. I was so impressed by the acting, the actors worked so well together like a well oiled machine. Thank you Dragon for bringing great theater to Palo Alto. I go and see plays in San Francisco, Berkeley and San Jose all of the time and this play ranks right up there with the big ACT and Rep productions. In fact, I liked this one better than most of the plays that I have seen lately and I didn't have to fight for a parking space. You put together a great show with a great cast, I hope to see them again, soon. Bravo Dragon! Thank you! Collapse

I enjoyed the production but have one negative comment. I felt that the age of the actors didn't always match the age of the characters they were playing. This is not to cast aspersions at the level of acting, just that the age of the characters and the age of the actual actors were not always in agreement. Collapse

What a lot packed into such a small theater. Consummate acting and an unusual script that blends comedy with tragedy with the overanalysis we all fall into. The script was sometimes clunky, but overall earnest. The cast melded beautifully as an ensemble -- I could have watched the hilarious lunch-party scene over and over. Lovely set design as well. Fantastic! Not to be missed! This is one of the few true ensemble productions I've seen in years. The entire cast is absolutely stellar - not a single miscast role. The director deserves tremendous credit both for casting such a talented ensemble and for creating a cohesive, well-executed production. I've seen other shows at TheatreWorks, San Jose Rep, even ART that didn't have the sense of ensemble this production had. RUN - DON'T WALK TO SEE THIS PRODUCTION! Collapse

Humble Boy is a very funny drama, or perhaps it is a dramatic comedy. That is to say, it has both aspects in full, and it is very well done. All the actors were excellent, the set well done, and the intimate theatre perfect for this play. The emotional transitions at the end of the second act were not as crystal clear as we would have liked. An excellent play for an enjoyable and thought-provoking evening. We recommend it highly. This play dealing with universal issues in a contemporary setting makes for an evening of fine entertainment, with many laughs. The cast was excellent. The Dragon Theatre is a small, intimate venue with only 42 seats. Reasonable prices, not more than a movie and some popcorn. It deserves support so it may flourish, the new season looks very promising. Collapse

We saw Humble Boy at Dragon Theater in Palo Alto on Saturday. It was a soldout house, but everyone fit into the cozy space comfortably. The set is incredibly interesting and alive. We were familiar with the play, we saw it in Ashland. We could have stayed here and seen a much better production! What a pleasant surprise! We have seen several productions at Dragon, we live in the city but think it is worth the trip. This was the best production yet. We have seen Maggie Grant in other plays in the city so we knew we were in for a treat. She did not disappoint, what a talent, why she is not in NY or LA is a wonder. Her acting was strong, direct and believeable as always. We also enjoyed the rest of the cast, the actor who played Felix was very strong and the chemistry between Flora and Felix was palpable, it was a delight to witness. Mercy was played very well as well as George and Rosie. Collapse
