The Fall Concert includes the following works: Artistic Director Maria Basile premieres Birthing the Ascension. A work for six members of the company to music of Thoth, this work continues to explore Other Worldly Phenomena and UFO Sightings which she began with her breathtaking 2003 solo "The Upward Spiral". Jeannine Charles, stimulated by the crash course that all parents take with the birth of their first child, creates 101 a playful romp for four dancers that leaves one wondering who really is in charge. Heather Cooper’s (as yet untitled) trio for three women investigates the many layers and characteristics of deep life – long friendships through their experiences of life, love and heartache and their reliance on each other’s support and sisterhood. José Ivan Ibarra, Bolero and Tango meet in his sensuous Sola a quintet that explores the isolation one can feel when surrounded by romance and passion in other people’s lives. The music is a combination of a classic Bolero by Roberto Cantoral and "Tango Sensations" by Astor Piazzolla. Vivacé, Artistic Director Gary Masters’ exuberant offering to Johann Sebastian Bach’s "Double Violin Concerto" opens the program. The work choreographed for six dancers is a joyous celebration of life and is dedicated to his father Warren Masters (1921 – 2006) and is for his mother Mildred "who loves this kind of blissful dancing".

sjDANCEco opened its 4th season of performances last night, and they were, in a word, spectacular. The choreography and dancing are among the finest I have seen in the Bay Area. Dance critic Rita Felciano attended and immediately told us that the Izzie's Dance Awards Committee needed to come and see this work. I could not be more proud of these performances. If you are a fan of dance, you won't want to miss them. On a more personal note, my husband Michael debuts with the company, and his performance with partner Heather Cooper is simply magnificent. We were at capacity last night, and expect Fri & Sat night's 7pm performances to sell out. Information on how to reserve tickets is below. Friday night's performance will be followed by a choreographers' Q&A, and Saturday night's performance will be followed by a small reception with the artists. If you only see one modern dance performance in San Jose this year, this should be it. Melanie Doerner, Board Chair Collapse
