Review/Comment
Two wounded souls meet in a bar somewhere in the Bronx. Roberta is a 31-year-old, divorced, single mother who carries an enormous burden of guilt and shame resulting from a sexual indiscretion she's loath to admit. Danny is a working-class bruiser who, at the age of 29, promises to himself that he'll put a gun to his head when he turns 30; he constantly gets into fights and thinks that he may have even killed someone the night before. Initially seated at two different tables in the bar, these characters begin a conversation that leads to an unlikely connection.

I went to opening night last Thursday and Allison and Corby put on an engaging, heart-wrenching show. They were real people, not characters or characatures. They got in deep, they made me feel for them. And at the end I cried and crossed my fingers that everything might just work out for Danny and Roberta. Go see it. It's good for your soul to see great theater. Collapse

In "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea" starring Allison Asher and Corby Kelly, director Lance Gardner, has found a way to take two very damaged individuals, neither of whom is at all likeable, and to make us care deeply about them. In this play, which is ideally suited to the intimacy of the Pear Theatre, the actors bring a realistic despair to two people who appear to be so deeply flawed as to be beyond redemption and then they bring them back from the brink to the realisation that there may be (only may be) hope -- Producing this play during the holiday season takes courage, and proves to be a worthy effort. Do see this play. And let's hope we see more of this team. Collapse

"Thought provoking"
Review posted by: Heather from Santa Cruz, CA, Dec 11, 2006
Allsion Asher and Corby Kelly give two very thought provoking performances in this show. They really convey the traumtized and injured souls that their characters are living with.
