We present two of the finest choral works of the Baroque period: Heinrich Schutz's monumental Musikalische Exequien and J. S. Bach's early cantata Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit, also known as Actus Tragicus. Bach's unusual and archaic scoring of two recorders and two violas da gamba adds a special poignancy to its message of consolation.
