San Jose Stage Company, along with San Francisco’s Thick Description, is proud to present the California Premiere of this poetic, powerful tale of a journey into the heart of darkness that lies at the center of desire. In Gibraltar, chance brings together Palo, a traveler searching for his runaway wife, and Amy, a widow whose husband disappeared in a boating accident. Their story is just one in a study of love’s bargains, woven together by celebrated local playwright Octavio Solis with what the San Francisco Chronicle calls “soul-searching honesty and breathtaking mastery.” Through the landscape of memory, Solis examines the nature of love, passion, and loss in stark but mesmerizing terms. For mature audiences only.

We loved this play. Tho the stage was spartan the words and actions made the scenes vivid. We felt this was a play for grownups wch did not overuse sex or swearing to make it seem so. All actors did a fine job w/ the one playing the police officer appearing to be very realistic in all nuances; I felt it true based on my 30 years as a prosecutor. Collapse
