Foothill's production gives was very good. Great performances by the lead cast, and some hot dancers to boot. Had a great time

I wasn't familiar with Pippin before Foothill's production, but had liked the few songs that I had heard out of context. The cast does a great job pulling off this "quirky" show. I thought the dancing was sharp, especially by the Leading Player, and there are some nice harmonies and solos throughout. I wished for mics at times, but it's probably hard to do in that small space. The show is definitely a spectacle, and the cast is working it hard. There is a lot of eye candy for everyone, and I think Foothill has captured what made this sexy historical romp popular when it first came out. Pippin as a show in general isn't now at the top of my personal list of best musicals, but the cast energetically sells every scene. If you haven't ever seen Pippin, give it a try - it doesn't get produced often, and a couple of my theatre friends consider it one of their favorites. Collapse

Go see this not-often-produced musical! It was my first time experiencing "Pippin" and I must confess it's quirky and weird, interesting and lively; the type of production the audience talks about at intermission. Go see Alicia Teeter, who's always great. Go see Nathan Baynard, who just nails the bewildered yet earnest look of Pippin. The first "best song of the show" was performed by Coco Dolenz, playing Pippin's grandmother Bertha. And then were others. Many recognizable faces in The Band of Players ... you'll see. Collapse

True, there were definate moments of "What is going on?" but, I really did enjoy myself at the February 24th showing of Pippin. I really enjoyed the actor who played Pippin. He showed innocence as well as strength. Great voice. The Leading Player was a terrific dancer. While his voice had a unique tonal quality, I wasn't highly impressed by his dynamics or stage presence. The ensemble cast was a lot of fun. I had to keep my eyes moving in order not to miss anything! It is a rather confusing show and probably needs to be seen a second time to really appreciate it... in fact... I WILL see it again. As an avid fan of Foothill Music Theatre, I am continually impressed by the caliber of talent and professionalism in their musicals. Unfortunately, PIPPIN is not one of their stronger productions. Nathan Baynard and Doug Baird give strong performances, as does Alicia Teeter. Overall, however, there is little chemistry and charisma surrounding the Leading Player and the energy of the piece falls very flat. The choreography is rather dull and not uniformly executed. Moreover, there were a few technical issues during the night I attended. It seemed more like a rough dress rehearsal than an actual performance. Collapse
