Add Review/CommentFoothill College Drama Department stages Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All to You and The Actor’s Nightmare. Both critically acclaimed one-act plays are by the award-winning contemporary American playwright Christopher Durang. The Actor’s Nightmare is a sophisticated farce in which an ordinary non-actor, George, wanders onto a theater stage. The leading actor has been injured and George, mistaken for the understudy, and is thrust into the show’s spotlight. George finds himself in hysterical send-ups of famous plays, including Private Lives, Hamlet and Endgame. Nightmare ends unexpectedly with a transition to A Man for All Seasons in which George comes up to face Sir Thomas Moore’s executioner. Sister Mary… focuses its satire around an authoritarian nun who is visited by four former students of her iron-handed rule and dogma. Each has a disturbing story to tell of the effects of Sister Mary’s life instruction, and the play’s humor turns dark. Sister Mary… also ends with unsettling surprises. Foothill Drama Instructor Janis Bergmann directs The Actor’s Nightmare. A professional actor, she teaches a range of theater courses at Foothill, is its resident costumer and leads the Foothill College Theatre Conservatory. Foothill Drama Instructor Jay Manley will direct Sister Mary… A Bay Area Theatre Critics award-winning director, he also leads Foothill Music Theatre and has directed recent productions of Show Boat, Into the Woods and West Side Story. The productions run Oct. 26 through Nov. 11 in the intimate Studio Theater at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills. Evening performances are Oct. 26, 27, Nov. 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 8 p.m. Matinee performances are Oct. 28, Nov. 4 and 11 at 2 p.m. Parking in lots 1, 5 or 6 is free only during the performance.
