One of Jane Austen's most delightful heroines, Emma is an effervescent ingenue whose matchmaking mischief inevitably misfires. Obsessed with romance, but clueless about her own feelings, she must navigate the course of true love with a generous heart as her only guide. A 19th century masterpiece brought to joyous life, this sumptuous world premiere mixes brilliant dialogue and a tuneful score in a funny and fulfilling chamber musical.

This romantic comedy is very well acted with a superb cast, especially the 3 leads (Emma, Mr. Knightley, and Miss Bates). It also surprised me with its frequent and creative use of humor that always seemed to hit its mark. The tunes aren't the type you'll be humming as you leave the theater, but they fit the style of the play and were all sung quite well. Also, a thumbs up to the set design (the orchestra is above the stage) and costumes. Collapse

The production values and the actors were all great however musically this show left a lot to be desired.

What a wonderful play. The story is true to the novel, the dialog taken directly from it. The songs are singable (melodic, and the lyrics easily understood), and stay in your head. The three main characters, Emma, Mr. Knightly, and Harriet Smith, are extremely well portrayed: they live and breathe and grow right before your eyes. Casting for the entire production was perfect, and the directing created fabulous detail in a fast-paced, but totally understandable comedic musical. We (the entire audience) laughed, we cried, and we gave the show a standing ovation. This is a must-see if you like romantic comedies, Jane Austen, musicals, or well-done theatre of any variety.
