Daring, joyous, thrilling, this immensely moving new musical is a celebration of human fortitude crafted by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner. In the troubled 1960s, Caroline is the African-American maid of a southern Jewish couple, and a lifeline for their young son. To the infectious rhythms of a glorious score, she must carve her place in a world where nothing comes easy, confronting the tides of hate while auguring hope for an America on the brink of change.

I incorrectly noted the lead as Allison Blackwell. Please correct to C. Kelly Wright in my recent submittal. Thanks.

This amuzing song-filled musical and sometimes comedy/sometimes drama is about a maid in the 1960's and the family she works for. The storyline drags a bit in the first act, but the energetic songs fill the void. The strong cast has all-around excellent singing and makes up for the light plot, with an extra nod to Allison Blackwell in the lead role, Julian Hornik, and Valisia LeKae. Some of the lyrics can be a bit corny or downright silly at times, but it all somehow fits into the style of the play. Collapse
