In a sprawling New Jersey Victorian, a taciturn Yankee widower and a vivacious grandmother from Tennessee find what they least expected - a second chance at love. Their funny, awkward, and enchanting romance is filled with sweet surprise and unpredictable tribulation. Told with warmth and perceptive humor, this off-Broadway success is an affecting, late-in-life journey of compromise and rejuvenation, of personal risk and the rewards of change. Special LOW prices for a select number of performances just added can be found directly on the Theatreworks website.

I have been reading Daddy Long Legs since I was about 14, and gave it to my daughter and my nieces to read. The play sticks to the book in content, and most importantly, in spirit - I was a bit reluctant to see the play at first, specially after the bastardization by the Fred Astair movie! - but I am so glad that I did go! The singing is very good, both "Jerusha" and "Jarvis" have great voices, and their combination is fantastic. I hope that this play gets national! Collapse

The actors were 'spot on' in this unique piece, and the one set was flexible enough, and the direction was imaginative, and creative, using the luggage to take us from one place to another. The music however was on ONE LEVEL which made this piece seem longer than it was. Although the music during this period was similiar in style, added instrumentation would have given the audience variety and the actors more to play with. Is it worth seeing....YES. Robt. Kelly always gives us things to contemplate, imagine, and creativity for us to enjoy, and we are lucky to have him in this area. Support TheaterWorks as it is worth having them in our backyard. Saw play 10/22. Audience 50% full at beginning of play. MANY of us RAN out at the intermission... that speaks volumes! Old ladies running to their cars. Very uninteresting. The friend I was with was 74 and sees half a dozen plays a year for decades... this was first one she eagerly left at intermission. She said, "meet you in the lobby" and then we both ran out. If one wants to hear a men only cast debate with page numbers, the wisdom of various esoteric religious texts, then "go for it." Collapse

Loved it, very emotionally riveting. Less about the friendship between the two boys, more about their relationships with their fathers. We cried.

Everyone on stage seemed to be trying very hard to make it a great show, but the play is just not all that interesting. The constant use of a Narrator who continually takes us out of the drama never allows the audience to really empathize with the characters. It made a great novel, but as a play it just felt heavy handed and mundane. Collapse
