An enchanting cousin of Our Town, this adaptation of Thornton Wilder's semi-autobiographical novel sparkles with wit, intelligence, and humanity. Seeking a life-changing adventure in 1926 New England, a young teacher finds his Model T broken down in elegant Newport, Rhode Island. Working odd jobs for the wealthy, he finds purpose in the prosaic, inadvertently changing the lives of everyone he meets. Wilder's wry humor and folksy philosophy highlight this celebration of the American spirit.

This was a very witty, whimsical, and at times sarcastic production about the spring/summer of Theophilus North in 1926. The plot itself doesn't have too much direction as it meanders through several concurrent subplots, but it is fun going along for the ride. The actors play several roles each, but it wasn't difficult to differentiate each scene and characters. One novel feature that worked well is that the actors played inanimate objects at times, such as a car, park, boat, etc., giving them personality and setting a visual for the audience. The acting was quite good by the cast, especially Mark Phillips, who fit well in the lead role with a Henry Higgins style performance, and Julia Brothers in various supporting roles. Collapse

This show is beautifully acted, with most of the actors taking multiple roles. However, their talents can't save an incredibly boring script.
