Cheryl Coon's installation features "three-dimensional sketchbooks", otherwise known as studio memorabilia and notations that document the places she goes, things that she looks at, and things that she reads. These multiple and varied collections inform the artist as she travels through her creative process of capturing life in fragile states of growth, transformation, and deterioration. "Minute Observations" is an exploration of life captured in a fragile state of disintegration. Through the creative process, many of the images are preserved in wax, or encased in transparent fabric. Like fossils, the images are preserved in a suspended animated state that shows the fragile membranes of living organisms. Coon's installation work layers objects from daily life that show the passage of time and the process of making art.
