Portola Art Gallery is proud to feature the photography of Alan McGee. “British Megaliths: A Personal Perspective” features a selection of photographs made at Pentre Ifan in Pembrokshire, Wales and Avebury Stone Circle in Wiltshire, England. McGee’s photography takes the reality of the landscape and transforms the literal into an emotional dance through tonal values and the structure of design. McGee says, “My images become “mindscapes” where spatial relationships may be far removed from reality and the original subject is either de-emphasized or not recognizable.” His aim is to present images with multiple levels of meaning, and to explore the energy that exists between what is represented and what is implied in the photograph. A Portola Valley resident, McGee has exhibited extensively throughout the United States, including the Jim Lucas Gallery in San Francisco, and Don Edwards S.F. Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Fremont CA. He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland CA, and University of California, Berkeley CA. There will be an Artists Reception on Saturday February 3rd, from 12-4pm.
