    Women – the Untold Story features excerpts from Jagriti (2001) and includes solo performances by Abhinaya Artistic Director and Founder, Mythili Kumar, as well as Company dancers Rasika Kumar, Malavika Kumar, Anjana Dasu, Lakshmi Venkatesan, Prerna Patel, and Neeraja Venkat. Jagriti-Awakening premiered with Abhinaya in 2001 and chronicles the exploitation of women through the ages," said Mythili Kumar. "By restaging true stories of victims of domestic violence, we hope to send a message to the many women living silently in abusive situations that they are not alone and that there is help available if they need it. The focus of this production on women is to continue to increase awareness of violence against women in the Asian-Indian community." Sunday’s performance features an Abhinaya student recital entitled My Favorite Story and includes favorites such as Pandora’s box, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and the Four Friends in the Bharatanatyam style of dance. Bharatanatyam includes miming of different stories from Hindu mythology.
