From the Bayou to the Bay: Stories of Katrina Survivors in their Own Words. Crafted by Ellen Gavin, Artistic Director of Brava! for Women in the Arts, Brava Theater Center, this powerful theatrical quilt was gleaned from a series of interviews with New Orleaneans ages 12 to 104 years old, now living in the Bay Area. Experience the rich music, everyday life, and fertile culture of a New Orleans now lost, along with the terrifying and hopeful moments from the greatest natural disaster in U.S. history. From the Bayou to the Bay saw its first staged reading last fall and now brings its vital message to the Santa Clara University campus. Curated and dramatized by Ellen Gavin. Staged reading performed by Michael Asberry*, Aldo Billingslea*, Olivia Charles*, Velina Brown*, L. Peter Callender*, Elizabeth Carter*, Bob Ernst*, BW Gonzalez*, Tessa Koning-Martinez, Linda Rose McRoy, Amber McZeal, Elizabeth Summers, and others. *Members of Actors Equity Association. Initial funding by the California Humanities Council and the LEF Foundation. This performance sponsored by the Santa Clara University Department of Theatre and Dance, with funding from the Center for Multicultural Learning, Residential Learning Communities, Residential Education Council, and Center of Performing Arts.

The whole aura of 1968 was just perfect. Loved the costumes, dancing, and singing. I only wish I had seen it earlier, so I could find time to go back again.

I went to see this fascinating play on Saturday, March 4nd, and found myself drawn into the performance. All the actors, especially the young man playing Moritz, did a wonderful job portraying life in a resticted society. It was gut-wrenching at times and at others, bitterly cruel. The coldness with which Moritz's death was handled by his peers was especially poignant. My feelings for the character Melchior were quite conflicted. A wonderful evening that made me ponder things long after the play was over. Collapse
