Four decades ago, republican strategist and Nixon administration member Phillips envisioned a United States ruled by an increasingly conservative Republican party. At the time, he looked upon this future with optimism and anticipation. But today Phillips recognizes some of the downsides of his vision, including ideological extremism, shortsightedness, fiscal irresponsibility, rampant greed. Hear Phillips talk about the U.S. trend toward debt, increasing oil consumption and the breakdown of the wall between religion and state.
