Schlumberger’s animal prints are an expression of childhood memories that are vividly depicted with bright colors and strong lines. Bird imagery, associated with freedom from the chains of our personal and collective existence, reappears to express the feeling of freedom through art. This exhibit will feature a unique wall hanging, which will serve as a background for 3-dimensional cloth animal prints. The fabric prints will come equipped with a magnet allowing viewers to position them on the backdrop. “This year I have become more and more interested in visual story telling and have thus done a children’s book,” Schlumberger said. Schlumberger explained that different sizes, textures and formats have captured her interest. “So I have done everything from seven foot scrolls, a six foot totem, lamps, multi-layered cloth prints to key chains. I’ve also had fun designing five different T-shirts. The last one will be for sale during the show and is based on one of the prints in the show.” All of Schlumberger’s works are done on an “old fashioned printing press,” combining several techniques in the same print. She often uses an aluminum plate etched with copper sulfate, a non-toxic technique, which looks just like a traditional etching. Monotype is often combined with the etched plates, so the prints are one-of-a-kind, “although there is a matrix,” she added. Special reception on March 25th, 4pm-7pm
