This retrospective features the artist's characteristic "found works," including assemblages made from shoes, bicycle parts, and discarded appliances, particularly irons and ironing boards. Willie Cole transforms these items of "urban archaeology" into new, hybrid forms that refer to his own African-American heritage. The exhibition is organized and circulated by the Montclair Art Museum.
