Among the Trees by Robert Terrebonne
April 25-May 27, 2007
“I became interested in taking photos of tree bark when I first saw a Painted Bark tree (also called Rainbow Eucalyptus and Mindanao Gum tree) along the Hana Highway in Maui in the early 1990's” said Robert Terrebonne. “I have always liked taking photos of colorful things in nature and I also enjoy doing macro shots that bring out fine details often unnoticed by the casual observer. I believe that by working closely with the subject, carefully framing my shots and by controlling photographic variables of focus and exposure, I am capturing the art in nature.” In one of Terrebonne’s works, titled Painted Bark, a magnificent rainbow of colors radiates from the limbs of a tree filling the print with scintillating color. “A common expression is that people often do not see the forest for the trees,” said Terrebonne. The photos in this show invite the viewer to go the other extreme and not look at the whole tree, but rather to narrow their field of vision taking delight in the unexpected and surprising nuances.
