Lois Parks DeCastro & Jeannine Redon
May 30-July 1, 2007
2 shows for the price of one! Invincible Summer, a mixed media exhibit by Lois Parks DeCastro and Cast Acrylic Monotypes by Jeannine Redon. Lois Parks DeCastro: I think of my work as "organized accidents" -- a place where unplanned applications of my media can be manipulated to create exciting relationships. Throughout the process, I'm continually asking, "What if ...? as a launch pad to explore and experiment with new techniques. My creative process begins with a single element I find visually interesting. It may be an image, color, line, shape or texture. I affix it permanently to my substrate and compose around it, much like building with blocks. Generally, I don't preplan or compose. Jeannine Redon: I am from Paris, France, where I was born and raised. My belief that there is a drawing in everything takes me to strange places. I draw about fitness... body language... I draw my love for peppers, garlic heads, artichokes... I draw my frustrations ... how I feel about death ... a thought comes to my mind and ends up on paper ... I practice color pencil with a passion. I particularly enjoy the challenge of working on black paper. (Everything one learns about color becomes moot when black is used as a background, and you have to abide by new rules) Printmaking is another one of my interests. At this time I am partial to linoneum cuts. Also, it looks like pastels are making a comeback into my artist's life! So ... let the show begin.....
