In December 1939, the Freitag family of Atlanta anxiously awaits the premiere of Gone With The Wind and Ballyhoo, the season's most anticipated social event for upwardly mobile southern Jewish singles. Niece Lala tops a Christmas tree with a star, but there is nary a menorah in sight when Joe, a young and handsome New Yorker who is proud of his heritage, comes to Atlanta to work for Adolph Freitag. Lala and cousin Sunny both vie for Joe, but is he the proper man for this upper class family? A Tony-Award winning romantic comedy, The Last Night Of Ballyhoo is a thought-provoking, funny and ultimately heartwarming tale about the need to belong and the healing power of love.

I'm surprised that no one else has submitted a review of this delightful little production. The show takes a fairly sensitive theme and does a good job balancing it with plenty of lighter comical moments. There were certainly many laugh out loud moments. The cast is, for the most part, superb, showing a true commitment to embracing their character roles. The set is lovely, reminiscent of one you might see at the taping of a television sitcom. This is one of the better productions I've seen all year. A great pick for the holiday season! Collapse
