Does art imitate life or does life imitate art? The genius of British playwright Tom Stoppard examines the question in this semi-autobiographical dramatic comedy that won several Tony awards in 1984. The story is about love; what is real love and how does one know this is "it"? Stoppard blurs the lines of reality and illusion when Henry and Charlotte, a writer and actress, navigate the slippery boundaries of their literary and theatrical worlds. The Real Thing, is a clever, poignant and entertaining examination of the pain and passion love brings into ordinary lives.

Not Stoppards best play, not Bus Barn's best productions and whether and off night or just the casting, not the best performances of these actors who I have seen before and admire greatly. Timing was off, topic was over the heads of most of the audience and there was no applause between scenes as well as a lot fewer people after intermission. Interesting how easy it is to miss the mark with talent abounding. Collapse
