Hair tells the story of a group of young people in New York's East Village who banded together to change the world. Although known as an anthem to the 60s, Hair resonates even now as its depiction of one turbulent era reflects our own.

    I was pleasantly suprized - while not being a hug fan of the music in HAIR - I purchased the tickets for my wife since it's one of her favorites. I have to say the cast is very strong - some amazing... Expand

    I was pleasantly suprized - while not being a hug fan of the music in HAIR - I purchased the tickets for my wife since it's one of her favorites. I have to say the cast is very strong - some amazing singing. It's a small theater so you really get to enjoy the performances up close and they use the entire space very well - The live band really rocked it. A great performance. Collapse

    So, I've never seen Hair, and other than a handfull of songs, I'm not familiar with the show, or the fact that it has very little "book". That being said, I was really having a difficult time... Expand

    So, I've never seen Hair, and other than a handfull of songs, I'm not familiar with the show, or the fact that it has very little "book". That being said, I was really having a difficult time understanding ANY of the lyrics. There's nothing more frustrating that seeing energy and talent (they were singing, moving, and emoting well) and not have a clue what words are being sung. This sound issue coupled with with the fact that the theatre was really COLD, made it very difficult to enjoy what I think I would have otherwise. I had to leave at intermission for these reasons but I would like to come back and see it again if these two things are cleared up. Maybe it's because I was on the side, maybe they had mic problems that night, but I felt like I should have been appreciating it a lot more. I didn't have huge expectations for it, but the ones I did have seemingly felt short despite feeling that the cast was working it. Collapse

I simply pointed out that people will notice their mean age. I most certainly do NOT want to see a production of HAIR if the cast is in their 40's and beyond. I did say that more homework needed to be done to properly convey the era. Thanks too for pointing out that the final scene involves everyone, I hadn't noticed. I will stand by my statement that the last scene is very powerful and very well done. Would that the rest of the mass scenes had the same amount of drive, power, diction and balance. Collapse

    I saw Hair last Sunday and enjoyed it very much. Reading the review below me I am not sure if he knew what he wrote. If they were born anywhere near when the draft took place it would've been a cast of 40 + and that would make it a little unbelievable. That did not make sense at all but anyway....I do agree with the outfits could've been a "little" more from the 60's but really that is reaching. I thought the ensemble was fabulous and again the comment below me wrote how the last 10 minutes of the show was the strongest and that is when the entire cast is singing. I thought the leads were AMAZING with the exception of Sheila - voice just ok. A few ensemble singers had much stronger voices I thought. Great show though - LOVED the duet and the black girl/white boys song. Collapse

    The first thing you'll notice when you see this show (and you WILL see this show) is that none of the cast members were born any where near when the musical takes place. A very young, energetic and clean bunch of actors. Too clean. None of the clothes were distressed (a serious lack of bell bottoms) and they all looked as though they rolled out of bed, showered, shaved (if they needed to), pulled out their well laundered clothes and went to protest. The leads were very good, the chorus numbers not quite so. More research was necessary to properly convey the time period and I didn't think the chorus did their homework. The choreography was very well thought out and well executed however there were sound issues. Garbled words, unbalanced with the band, that sort of thing. The last 10 minutes of the show are simply fantastic and worth the price of admission. It's been extended so you still have a chance to go. Walk to a performance, you'll be glad you did. Collapse

    I thought the review from the diretor of "Hair" last summer was a little harsh and the only reason I can think of why he commented or went to see the show was to compare his work against the work of the Director of San Jose City Lights. Well I happened to see both productions and both productions were very good. This production vocally blew away last summers but the choregraphy was better in last summers production. I did feel the acting was well done as well in this show and it drew me in. The last number was AMAZING as well as a few others. Definitely go see it if you are a "Hair" fan. Worth every penny and two thumbs up to Lisa. Where did you find all these awesome vocalist? Collapse

    I directed HAiR at San Pedro last summer and did not think it appropriate to do a review so this is only a comment. Echoing one of the other reviewers, I felt that this production, while good (maybe TOO good) in some ways, didn't "get" what HAIR is supposed to be about. The comment about this being a "cast" not a "tribe" by Robert Johnson is right on. We spent many hours with Michael Butler (original producer of HAiR) and he repeatedly told us that HAiR is about the tribe. This production doesn't even identify the cast as a tribe in the program (which is traditional). This is a musical, and vocally, a very good one (probably much better than ours) but the choreography looked like it was out of a typical musical, not the fluid, pulsing choreography that we tried to pull off (and according to Mr. Butler, we did well). Was it good? I guess it was entertaining, but having seen many HAiRs in the past few years, I didn't find it compelling at all. Of course, that's just my opinion. Collapse

    This production of HAiR was good in some ways, not so good in others. Compared to the production last summer at San Pedro Square Theater, the singing is significantly superior and since HAiR is an awful lot about its music, this is a distinct improvement. On the other hand, the dancing is much too Broadway and the style is much too "flower power" compared to the relatively gritty performance of the less talented but seemedly more politically aware troupe last year. Last year's cast seemed like a tribe, this cast seems like a cast. Hopefully it will improve throughout the run. Collapse
