Add Review/CommentAmerican Ice Theatre, (AIT) will present a Holiday Medley at the Downtown Ice Rink presented by Knight Ridder and produced by the San Jose Downtown Association. The free ice show, originally scheduled for last Thursday at the San Jose Outdoor Ice Rink, has been reschedule for Friday, December 5th. (The ice was not ready last week due to unseasonably warm weather.) The Outdoor Ice Rink is located on the corner of Market and Viola Streets. (Adjacent to San Jose McEnery Convention Center near the Marriott Hotel.) The Holiday Medley with skaters Jodi Porter, former National competitor Kristina Feliciano, and Allison Best, includes a tribute to Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley and Dennis Nahat's "The Nutcracker" featuring soloist Nicholas Roby. The cast will be joined by Ballet San Jose staff who will be giving out free balloons for the kids. A special treat for the whole family! The rink will be open following the performance for a Family Night Skate. American Ice Theatre is led by Artistic Director Jodi Porter, who is a former professional skater and choreographer. She holds a degree in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and has danced with Repertory Dance Theatre and Shipp Dance Theatre. She choreographed the Opening Ceremonies for the Exhibition of Champions at the XIX Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake and has been directing and choreographing projects since 1997. She currently teaches Modern Dance at Ballet San Jose School. Ms. Porter's work integrates dance and skating into an art form that was first pioneered by New York Ice Theatre founded in 1984. "AIT is developing choreographic works in ensemble skating and strives to make them accessible to Bay Area Communities," says Porter. "We are one of the first companies on the West Coast, and the only one that integrates Classical and Contemporary Dance." The Downtown Ice Rink, sponsored by Knight Ridder, is part of the San Jose "Downtown for the Holidays" season of holiday events.
