Add Review/CommentOne of the great classics of American musical theatre, West Side Story was a groundbreaking work. An updated retelling of Romeo and Juliet, its love story imbued with dark themes and social upheaval, it marked a turning point in the genre due not only to thesethemes, but with its sophisticated score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and especially through its extensive use of ballet. Director/choreographer Jerome Robbins created some of the most restless, electrifying dance numbers ever to hit Broadway, and WEST SIDE STORY is well known to this day for its athletic yet graceful gang members. San Mateo High School's renowned Drama Department brings PAYS a special presentation of song and dance highlights, under the direction of Brad Friedman, with choreography by Robyn Tribuzi, music direction by Attilio Tribuzi, and vocal direction by Shaun Reifschneider.
