    Welcome to the twenty-third season! The celebration begins with Brahms's beloved first symphony. Written well into his illustrious career, this work exemplifies the artistry of a composer at the top of his form. Margaret Brouwer's Sizzle is first in the series of lively fanfares that open our concerts this season. Shostakovich's Cello Concerto Number 1 brims with fervor against the repressions of Stalin.
