Add Review/CommentThe 2007-08 Evenings of Cultural Arts series opens September 8, 2007, extending the feel of summer with the traditional Hawaiian sounds of Ledward Ka’apana. This slack key guitar master has earned multiple Grammy nominations and is the winner of several Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, including last year’s Instrumental Album of the Year. Led is also renowned for his extraordinary baritone and leo ki’eki’e falsetto singing and his kolohe rascally charm. Led grew up in the tiny black sand bay village of Kalapana, where he learned at backyard parties to play old-style island music, with plenty of aloha, from teachers including his mother, Mama Tina Ka’apana and uncle Fred Punahoa. As a teen, Led, twin brother Ned and cousin Dennis Pavao formed Hui’Ohana, one of the hottest Hawaiian groups of the 1970s and ‘80s with 14 best-selling albums. Led has performed and recorded with most of Hawaii’s top talents, as well as Nashville notables including Dolly Parton and Chet Atkins.
