An influential voice in postwar American painting, Ed Ruscha is also one of contemporary art's most important graphic artists. From his first artist books and prints made in the 1960s to his most recent projects, Ruscha and his art epitomize the tenets of both Pop and Conceptual art with their reliance on combinations of text, image, and idea. A generation younger than Ruscha, Raymond Pettibon grew up in a Southern California beach town and his seminal album covers and posters for punk rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s established him as a figurative artist dealing with raw and often deviant combinations of popular culture and literary sources that include Henry James and Marcel Proust.

Extremely disappointed that it is sold out! Please find a way to extend the opportunity to the large audience that wish to hear him speak. Pod Cast, video tape, partner with local public TV, move it to a larger venue for the talk, be creative! His fans don't have many chances to learn from his personal view... he's one of our own California gems and should be shared broadly. Please don't ignore this great opportunity to spread his word in a larger manner to more people now, and for future fans he will inspire years from now. Thanks. Collapse

I did not realize Wayne Thiebaud event was a paid one as I would have bought tickets very early. That's too bad. Leaves a bad taste for me with regards to the San Jose Museum.

Since this was sold out so quickly, maybe you could video the event, or KQED or KTEH might be interested. I'm soooo sorry to miss it.

Give yourself plenty of time to walk through this exhibit as the REAL art is in the details. So much fun and gorgeous color and texture! Fantastic!

I appreciated the clarity of Garcia's vision, and her passion for her subject was evident in everything she drew and painted. But after a while all the works began to resemble each other too closely; I felt battered by the same strident tirade against suburbia over and over. Perhaps the exhibit could have used fewer works, or showed the artist's range by also including works with different themes. Collapse

I went to see the Escher exhibit and was surprised to see my scribbles and doodles all over the walls. As a little girl I needed to doodle all the time and became tried of thinking of things to draw. I must have thrown away a million of these works of art forty some years ago! I am an elementary school art teacher now. I guess it is true... if you call it art, then it is art. It was very interesting to see along with the Escher exhibit but of course it is clear who exhibits the true talent. Wonderful museum, wonderful city, most enjoyable. I would recommend to any art enthusist. Collapse

You sit in front of a large array of small screens surrounded by speakers. Both words and symbols appear all while various sounds and voices appear. Pretty nifty and enthralling.
