This Valentines weekend, celebrate the music of 19th Century Romanticism with a twist. Music at the Mission and Music@Market are bringing to the forefront an instrument often found in the background. "Romance and the Double Bass?!" features bay area virtuoso and Principal Bassist of Symphony Silicon Valley, Bill Everett along with Pianist, Aileen Chanco. This program covers the breadth of 19th Century Romantic music from the virtuosic to the expressive. On the program are pieces by Giovanni Bottessini and Adolph Misek. who came from the golden era of the performer-composer, when soloists performed their own compositions alongside those of the masters. Also included on the program are Everett's own arrangements of war horses from the cello repertoire by Brahms and Rachmaninoff. Hoping to shed new light on music that has been performed by a myriad of cellists, Everett's approach to these pieces strives to make use of the bass in new ways, not so apparent or even possible on the cello.
