Bursting through the brutality and prejudice of America in 1959, Blade to the Heat captures the sensual action of boxing and music. Critics are calling this revival “dynamic” and “action-packed” with a “heavyweight cast.” In this ring, where everything is a fight and life itself is the art form, the multiple conflicts of love, cultural forces, athletic glory and humiliation culminate in a series of  brilliant fight sequences, lifted high on the mambo beats and roaring crowds.

Gratuitous sex and shallow stereotypes do not
        equal "edgy" for me. Collapse

This is truly moving art on a high caliber. I don't think I've ever seen a bad production at San Jose Stage but this production truly took my breath away. I walked out of this production wondering why I didn't have season tickets; well, that's an easy fix. Fabulous performances by all. Good theater is oh so very good, but this blows past that. Thank you San Jose Stage! Collapse

Wow. I didn't know at all what to expect and was plesantly impressed with this new, inventive, edgy piece. No pretnetion, lots of energy from a wonderfullly diverse cast, and creative use of the space made this a really great show. With the exception of a few techinical choices and a bit of confusion at the very end, it packed a punch. This is not a familiar name, nor would I classify this as even a well known playwright, but this is important theatre to see. This is certainly for mature audiences for thematic reasons as well as male nudity and if you are uncomfortable with homosexuality certainly think twice about attending. Though not a fan of boxing at all, I have to say it was a wonderful vehicle to tell a fantastic story and the actors were superbly cast. The music used was fantastic, the mix of languages brillant. It was a delight to find how humerous and ADORABLE machismo can be as well as moving! Well done! Collapse
