For more than 20 years artist Charles Hobson has created artist's books, a medium he finds unique for its special qualities of sequence and flow and word and image. For Hobson, a teacher at the San Francisco Art Institute since 1990, books give life to creative notions and fancies in ways that are different than other media. The recent donation of Hobson's archive to Special Collections at the Stanford University Library provides the opportunity to offer a selection of some of the thirty books the artist has created along with some of the preliminary works that illustrate the processes through which the books came into being.
